If you are planning a trip or a move to Texas Hill Country, here are a few facts to know.

The geography of Texas Hill Country is quite unique and there is just no other place in Texas quite like it. The region is a large, hilly plateau marked with several prominent granite domes, such as Enchanted Rock, which is a popular tourist attraction. The rock is located in Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and visitors can camp, hike, rock climb or just enjoy a picnic. The area features an abundance of interesting flora and fauna, as well.

In addition to the hills and rocks, there's a lot going on underground and you can visit a number of caverns throughout Texas Hill Country. One cavern, the Cave Without a Name in Boerne, has been named a National Natural Landmark. Inner Space Cavern, which is located near Georgetown and Natural Bridge Caverns are both open for tours and definitely worth a visit.

If you do a search for images of Texas Hill Country, chances are that you will see quite a few pictures featuring fields of lavender. The Texas Lavender Association has its headquarters in Texas Hill Country, and the region features as many as 50 farms specializing in the production of lavender. There are even several notable lavender events, such as the Blanco Lavender Festival or perhaps the Becker Vineyards annual Lavender Fest.

If you think about domestic wine, you probably think mainly about California or perhaps Virginia, but Texas should be near the top of the list. This was actually the first state where grapes were grown to produce wine on a large scale. Franciscan monks recognized that the climate and soil conditions in parts of Texas were ideal for grape growing, and Texas Hill Country has become a center of the Texas wine industry with more than 35 wineries throughout the region.
