The Seriousness of Maintaining Adequate Skin Hydration

By Andrea Hamilton

Hydrated skin looks a lot more glowing and smoother compared against skin that is poorly hydrated. A healthy, hydrated skin can also be taken as a sign of a good metabolism or adequate water levels in an individual's body. Skin hydration remains a hazy topic though, with a large amount of misunderstandings and twisted facts. So let's try to shed some light on the real meaning of hydration, often referred to as skin moisturizing.

The easiest way to understand the topic is to approach it from behind i.e. Skin dry out. If we can understand the causes then the solution shouldn't be too tricky to figure out.

Skin dry ups are biologically believed to be due to dead skin cells in body tissues that somehow make it to the skin surface causing skin itching, cracking, flaking among others signals of dehydration. This health condition is often known as Xerosis.

It could be caused by environmental factors or a ritual you are doing that disintegrate the fatty layers of the skin that protect it, thereby leaving it exposed to pollutions or harsh rays of the sun and heat. Such rituals often include basic errors like abusing skin moisturising creams and this occurs when you apply moisturizing creams to skin when it's too dry. This leaves no chance at all for the skin to soak in the moisturising cream. Experts endorse moisturising creams with less alcohol, it also has to be adequately thick to seal in all of the moisture.

Dry air in the winter sucks moisture right out of the skin as predicted due to extreme heat levels. Summers also tend to cause the same effects as the dry heat arising from the area's heating systems contains no moisture at all.

These are just of course very basic tricks that anyone can afford to execute and maintain but it is also suggested that you visit a specialist for guidance on what explicit soaps and cream for wrinkles would work well for your skin type. It is also logical to visit a specialist because some skin dry up might be a sign of something more serious affecting your skin.
