Testing Love With True Lover Tests

By Nancy Gardner

Love is a part of the human experience. It brings with it feelings of bliss and a dreamy outlook. People are so preoccupied with love and being in love that they seek many ways of determining who is meant for them or who is in love with them. True lover tests are among the methods used to pass the time and sometimes to test the mettle of another person's affection.

Many people confuse love with infatuation. Infatuation though, is temporary even though it is quite intense. The fact that infatuation is short-lived makes it important for those who are experiencing it to avoid making any long term decisions. But without the assistance of methods such as these instruments, they are usually unable to identify the experience as infatuation. This is especially true of teenagers, who are commonly associated with periods of infatuation.

Investing in someone else emotionally and financially is a pretty big step. If the wrong person is selected, serious heartache and loss can result. Persons who are about to get married for instance, often choose to consult assessment tools that evaluate the strength of the connection being felt between two persons. The same occurs with those who decide to move in with each other, start a business, start a family or adopt a pet.

Love evaluation instruments are made up of questions. These questions are focused on the behaviors and feelings of the subjects. Each question has a range of, on average, three questions. Each of those questions has a numeric value. When the test is completed, the total score of the questions is tallied. This total is them matched against some categories to determine which one is appropriate. The category contains an overview of the status of the love or the relationship.

These tests are often found in magazines. They are used to pass the time as people wait to be served at business places such as doctors' offices. They are also popularly used while people travel on buses and airplanes. When they are used in these circumstances, their validity is often underestimated and tend to be dismissed as meaningless, especially if the results do not sit well with the person who took the test.

The internet has many of these tests available for those who who wish to use them. The availability of online versions of the tools is predominantly owing to the prevalence of the internet as a tool of socialization and information gathering. The online test is more convenient to use than its paper based counterpart since the scores for the responses and the resulting analysis are produced automatically. Users can therefore take as many of them as possible without worrying about wasting paper or having to purchase more magazines.

Professional behaviorists also use them. They often combine them with compatibility evaluation instruments to determine the strength of a relationship. In doing so they are able to provide evidence backed advise to their clients.

Love, while largely uncontrollable, can be evaluated and measured. These instruments prove this and while doing so they provide people with objective evaluations. These evaluations can help them to make decisions that limit their risk of heartbreak and loss.
