What Defines A Christian Social Justice Blog

By Marci Nielsen

The gospel of Jesus Christ is regarded as one founded on social justice. As the issues facing humanity change, it is not surprising to see a spectacular Christian social justice blog that captures the message in light of the teachings by Jesus. While many handle issues from a Christian perspective, few can be regarded as faithful to the fundamentals of Christianity.

The basic tenet of defining a blogger as oriented to the gospel of Christ is fidelity to the Word. Some bloggers have been known to skew the Word of God to suit their intentions. This means that the interpretation of the Word does not meet the standards required of Christianity and its teachings. In some cases, the aim is to achieve an end that is different from what the gospel intended.

Issues addressed on blogs can also be used to mark their identity. The aim is to provide a Christ centered solution to pertinent issues like health, environmental degradation, conservation, education, war, etc. Resource distribution and the arising conflicts also capture the attention of bloggers. Christians contribute to such debates with the aim of sharing experiences and exchanging ideas to ensure that a just solution is found.

Advances in societies have led to inventions and technology that can be useful or misused. Experts in technology highlight beneficial inventions and their application in changing the lives of populations. Blogs focus on innovations and technology that can transform the lives of individuals as well as be misused to their disadvantage.

Some blogs are identified by the people and organizations determining their content. Religious groups and leaders are taking to the internet to attract the attention of a young population that remains internet savvy. The issues raised on such platforms are close to the minds of the young people. Professionals use such platforms to assist the young generation in identifying with the Christian perspective.

Politics is an integral part of any social justice advocacy mission. The leaders elected in a country make decisions and come up with policies that affect the masses under their jurisdiction. The blogs are used to scrutinize decisions made by such leaders through the Christian sieve. The aim is to protect the masses from policies that would be designed to favor small elite at the expense of the masses.

As the society changes, traditional Christian values are put under pressure. For instance, lobby groups are pushing for recognition of homosexuals and gays as legally married. Such a subject is divisive and has split the church and religious groups. Blogs are a perfect platform to express opinion and capture the views of a majority of people. The opinion of church leaders is also spread very fast through blogging.

Christians around the world have used blogs to highlight the great works being carried out by leaders, groups and individuals. Most of this work is in areas that have been ravaged by wars and natural disasters. While in these areas, they help to push for social justices course and use blogs to gain global support. Blogs are credible based on the person running the platform or the institution behind it.
