Breakfast Pastries For Culinary Students To Know

By Katie Onson

Sometimes the day has to start off with something that's sweet. As a result, the preparation of breakfast pastries cannot be overlooked. To say that these treats have their perks would be an understatement, and I am sure that anyone who's skilled in the culinary arts would agree. What should culinary arts students know about breakfast pastries, though, you may wonder? As you can probably imagine, there are several details to take into account.

If you want to create the best breakfast pastries, it's important to note that sweetness shouldn't be overpowering. Seeing as how these will be consumed in the morning, wouldn't it make sense for them to possess only a moderate degree of sweetness? I am sure that others would agree with such a point. However, if you'd like a list of the best breakfast pastries for every culinary student to know, here are a few ideas you'd be wise to look into.

One of the initial choices to go over are sweet rolls, which are breakfast pastries that can be prepared with several ingredients. For example, many pastry chefs take it upon themselves to bake certain types of fruit into their sweet rolls, berries being some of the easier choices to incorporate. Whatever the case may be, sweet rolls can appeal to several tastes. As a result, they are pretty safe to add to just about any morning meal.

For something a bit messier but satisfying all the same, sticky buns are more than worth learning how to prepare. Complete with brown sugar, honey, and the like, you can be certain that these treats will incorporate the right amount of sweetness for greater culinary efforts. With that said, you have to consider that "sticky" ingredients are key. Not only will the aforementioned honey come into play but alternatives such as maple syrup can prove to be effective in their own right as well.

To cap things off, let's look at cinnamon rolls, which are unique from sweet rolls in the ingredients used. Suffice it to say, there is a heavy degree of emphasis on cinnamon, though many chefs find themselves using icing to decorate these breakfast pastries further. It's also worth noting the importance of honey, as many chefs use these to help give cinnamon buns more of a shine. Regardless, they are worth noting, whether you are learning about the pastry arts or not.
