Why The Sunday Morning Church Service

By Eloise Hewitt

Every weekend millions of Christians gather to worship. This is in response to the call of the Lord Jesus Christ that even long after his demise, his disciples would continue with the gospel. In City Denver, CO Sunday morning church service typically start at eight or nine up to around midday. This time is convenient to most people.

To give a sense of direction, there are maps in the net that can assist you in locating a church of your choice. Also in the net are brief descriptions of the activities that take place in these houses of God on weekly basis. The schedule differs according to the principals that are laid by the particular establishment. In City Denver there are basically two categories of churches; non-denominational and denominational ones.

It is refreshing to visit a non-denominational church for a morning service. You get to meet other members who are happy and active in the service of God. These brethren are able to give you the reassuring feeling that Christ is really available for His people. The ushers give you a broad smile that you will remain to remember.

They always read the scriptures in series. There is the first reading, the second and the third. The priest then leads the believers in a series of prayers intercepted by choir music. When the time for the sermon comes, the choir presents a number that gives a message about being receptive to the word. The priest then gives the sermon. They speak with a normal tone and are not involved in any form of acrobatics.

This is the opportunity that the church leader, be it a pastor, reverend or bishop seizes to lead the crowd in repentance. He or she then prays for them asking God to have mercy and pour His favors on them. The whole congregation agrees to the prayer in solidarity by saying amen which means let it be so. This is shortly followed by announcements and then the preacher takes over and the drama begins. With calculated swerving moves and loud voice, the message is taken home to give way to the concluding prayer

For the denominational gatherings the services begin as early as six. In a whole day they can have a series of three services each taking three hours. They still hold the traditions of the original church and oppose some protestant beliefs. Their prayers are recited communally and the songs are derived from hymn books.

The scripture reading is done in stages. A series of guided prayers follow with some choir sessions in between. The sermon is presented in form of a typical lecture. There is no attempt to be radical but the message is delivered in tranquility and humility. The congregation is thus driven into a calm and reflective mood.

No matter the type of church you decide to visit, it is a nice experience. You will feel peaceful within you and forget the struggles of life, at least for a moment. It is good for believers to commune every Sunday to worship the creator. This is also a perfect moment to seek forgiveness of sin and give life a new turn.
