The New Online High School Courses Ontario

By Sally Delacruz

A course is a series of lessons offered in high schools and colleges by teachers or lecturers. Students can take different courses from each other like art, science, business etc. These courses can also be taken online if the student prefers to do so. Online high school courses Ontario has been introduced by their ministry of education together with the e Learning association.

Distance learning is flexible and students get to learn at their own pace at their own preferred time. The ministry of education has partnered with e learning in Ontario so that they can provide a wide range of courses to their students anywhere.

The distant learning being offered in high schools has prepared students for university/college which is an advantage to them. Teachers also find internet learning simple, flexible and convenient for them and most of them in Ontario say that they are enjoying this new curriculum that has been introduced by their ministry of education.

The students and teachers have to open a portal where they can access their courses and assignments, notes, announcements and even get their results. Like the normal traditional class they are given a deadline on when to submit their assignments and exams. The students can ask their teachers questions through email just as if they were in class.

The Ontario learning portal has gained popularity in that there are more than 30,000 visit in a day some of them being students and people interested in joining this system. It is also cheaper and easier way of learning that is why many schools offer distant learning at competitive prices to encourage people.

The benefits of studying online are as follows; it becomes convenient to people who live far but wish to join a certain institution, they can be part of that school without having to move from where they reside. It is time cautious since one can research from one site to the other unlike going to the library to do research.

The disadvantages are; a student should always be at the disposable of a computer and electricity. Sometimes when there is a power blackout they are forced to wait or postpone their assignments. Another disadvantage is that some students learn better through physical demonstrations especially when it comes to practical.

The disadvantages of distance learning are; there is minimal or no interaction at all between teachers and students, some students get to understand better by the physical demonstrations made in class. Some many find online course to be much harder especially if they do not know how to use a computer, they might find doing their course tedious and time consuming. Lastly the freedom that the students get to enjoy through distant learning can be dangerous to them especially if they cannot handle it, they might fail to do their assignments on time and end up failing the whole course.
