The Proper Way on How You Are Able To Decline An Offer Without Losing Your Job

By Bill Duggen

As soon as a promotion is offered in the workplace, most people conjure up a picture of better environment at work as well as a fatter pay check. Though there may be dozens of advantages one can reap from accepting a promotion, experts say that there are also valid reasons why you need to pass on such an opportunity.

Needless to say, this actually a difficult decision to make. It could lead you to leaving your team, people who have earned your trust or those you would call family at work. It can also lead to a more challenging environment in which you are not sure you can handle and eventually can lead to losing your job if not dealt with accordingly. It is recommended that you have second thoughts about accepting that great offer.

The moment you've decided to just turn down the generous offer, how would you do it in such a way that it would not cause any negative effect with regard to relationship with others and your workplace? Fortunately, this process can be a bit easier if you are among those old-timers in the company where you are working and already have established a good working relationship with most of your colleagues. The company would simply accept any decision you make as you've already proven yourself through your years of service and experience with the company. Thus, a simply ?it?s not you but me...? clause to your introduction would be enough. If your promotion requires relocation, you can turn down the offer without compromising anything by letting them know of your situation and how the promotion would negatively affect it. A good idea for this tactic is to mention that you are having your kids in school and that having to relocate to another place would devastate them. Or ?I really love to get that new job but I can?t take my sick wife at a farther distance from the hospital? and many more.

Another one way to decline a golden ticket without getting a negative impact is to present them with more company benefits if you are on your current job. A good way of saying this is ?that is a great offer but I can?t take it right now as I believe I have developed new skills and techniques to further enhance the production or performance of the company.?

Another good way to turn down that generous offer for a better position is to simply say that your skills or expertise does not match the requirements of the offered position. The key to doing this is to have them picture the kind of environment you are in as well as the things that you would rather do with your current set of skills. Make a comparison on your present job and the offered job and simply point out where you can perform better.

Having to turn down an offer is really quite difficult not only because it is not normal to do so but also because it comes with more responsibilities, challenges and a higher level of skill requirement. Fortunately, as you've read this content you can now turn down any offer you don't like without having to compromise anything.
