Seven Steps On How To Teach Reading To Kids

By Annabelle Holman

The best way to introduce a child to the wealth of knowledge gained through the written language is to begin teaching them early in a warm and loving atmosphere. Below is a description about how to teach reading to kids and they are great for anyone who wish to help children learn how to read. When a child has an early education, they are able to develop a foundation to handle complex curriculum in higher institutions of learning.

The first thing you need to do to get started is to come up with a suitable reading schedule for your child. The best time for your child to start reading is during the night before going to bed. At this time, both of you have the time to spend together, an opportunity to make reading easy and interesting for your child.

The local library could be a great source where you can find better reading materials that can help our child learn how to read as well as becoming a regular reader. When you are at the library, take the child to the children book section and allow him or her to pick a book or books they would find interesting to read. If you are a registered member with the library, you can borrow these books and have your child use them for reading over the weekend.

There are times that your child will need time to study on their own, especially when they find an interesting and engaging book in the local library. When you notice your child wants to read on their own, take them to a suitable environment. Ensure that the area is quiet, free from distraction and comfortable.

Taking turns in reading is a great way to help your child learn how to read. To take turns in the best way possible, choose a story from the book your child loves studying the most and read the first three or four paragraphs aloud. Remember your child will be listening to you so you need to read in a way they understand easily. Once you are done, have your child read the same story to you.

Always listen to your child read. Try the best you can to track the instances where they are finding it difficult to read. Remember that some words are difficult to read so your child may pause on them and look at you to signify they need your help. Make sure you teach them how to pronounce the words before they continue reading.

Help a child with sound patterns when they are studying. It is important to keep in mind that a child will not pronounce some words exactly the way they should because they are new to such words. Make sure you point out sound patterns in the book they are reading so that they read comfortably.

Having your child sit down to read stories is not only a way to entertain and educate them but also a way to help enhance their studying skills. Have them read stories they like before they go to sleep.
