This code forms part of legal requirements under which nurse practitioners, registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse, certified registered nurse anaesthetists, licensed practical nurse and midwives operate. Their conduct under the code comes under investigation by the Department of Health. Judgement rests on whether they met or failed to meet the requirements of code while practicing.

Three areas are covered in the new code updated from the earlier one. These cover one, two and three Provisions. These three cover new guidelines on advocacy for community, family and patients. The need in exercising respect and kindness within every professional relationship sees emphasis.

Provision Four to Six covers the latest guidelines that cover maintaining and delivering competent care. This includes self-care and self-respect. It covers accountability and the responsibility by nurse professionals in continuous learning, personal and professional growth.

Number three involves Provision Seven through Nine. Set forth here are the broader issues regarding a certain communitys health. It covers state, international, county and national arenas. Covered are advancement of social policy, values and professional education.

This Ethics Code for our nursing profession is a reflection of the ethical heritage pride held within the nursing profession. It serves to promise and guide the society that every nurse will adhere to it always. The code is also a basis on which nurses will be judged when they are accused of unprofessionalism and misconduct. It constitutes the law which every nurse operates.
