Kinds Of Etiquette Lessons For Kids

By Dominique Martin

In one story, a little prince failed to use his napkin during a party in the castle, in spite of his mother who is very particular about it. Before going to bed, his mother asked him to write the word god. He was then told to write it backward and see what he will find. It turned out to be the word dog, and thus his mother explained to him the two sides of people, god and dog, where dogs do not know the difference between what is good and bad. In other words, good manners can make the god side of you shine, while the opposite will just make you a dog.

In other words, what makes us higher than all other animals is that we are cultured. And by cultured we mean not just rational but with proper attitude, and sending our children for etiquette lessons for kids in DC in Washington, DC, is a good place to start learning the social graces. There are many things money cannot buy, and one of them is class. There are different schools of manners, and some of these are the following.

Social etiquette is perhaps the most general kind. This refers to your behavior in daily social interactions. Making small talk, gracefully entering and exiting conversations, active listening, giving and receiving compliments are examples of the skills you need. Because you only have thirty seconds to create a lasting good impression, being equipped with good social manners is your edge in winning friends and employers.

At work, corporate etiquette should be practiced. This depends on the recommended decorum of the company as well. Dress codes, respecting your colleagues, and knowing the significance of corporate hierarchy are examples.

Business etiquette is very much obvious in the way people make business deals and transactions. Because of the many dirty aspects of the industry, proper decorum is something of an edge among all the other businessmen in the world. Etiquette breeds trust, which is of high value in the business world.

Meeting decorum is observed during lectures, classes, presentations, and such. Knowing when to raise your hand and ask questions are part of this classification. You are expected to practice proper decorum when in public gatherings, whether you are the speaker or the audience.

Wedding etiquette is also a necessary discipline. All throughout the world, the day people marry is always a special day, and its celebration should not be hindered by bad manners. Punctuality, drinking moderately, and knowing the customs are part of it.

Bathroom manners are also very important. It is for your own good, the way you will also get angry if some careless person did not flush the toilet you are supposed to use. Observing proper bathroom ethics in public toilets and shared restrooms is definitely a must, because you have to be considerate most especially when it comes to the basic needs of a person.

And perhaps the most well known is eating manners. We all know about not talking when our mouths are full or where to place our elbows, but because there are different customs around the world, we should be cultured enough to know our table manners, whether you are at home or staying in another country for a vacation. Dining like a royal when you are at family dinners and restaurants will reflect not just who you are but how you were raised.
